6/27/10 - This was my second visit to The Abundant Life Church, FWB, FL.
It was only my second Sunday-Worship visit to The Abundant Life Church. (I do regularly attend Abundant Life's Tuesday Night Ministry, however). I returned this Sunday because the fine congregation was celebrating their 34th. Anniversary and honoring the founders, Dr. & Mrs. Thorne!
The Thornes are a wonderful couple, both glowing with The Lord's personality, the Bishop smiling happily in spite of his major health challenges!
I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate them both, their son Pastor Michael Thorne who is now in the premier leadership role, and all the incredible supportive parishioners who have been present and championing their endeavor for decades. Dr. Thomas Moraczewski a local Obstetrician (himself a parishioner for 21 years) and a number of others gave testimony at the microphone to their rich experiences at Abundant Life over the past three decades.
Abundant Life has its own Christian radio station and broadcasts The Message to an extended area in the Florida Panhandle. They also sponsor a tremendous "12 Step" outreach mission, ("Last Call") headed by Shane Gowens through his EagleGate Ministries and featuring his incredibly talented wife and singer, Jeana. Keep up the good work you'all!
Founders of The Abundant Life Church
THE "34th. Anniversary MESSAGE." (A summary, adapted & edited from the brief sermon given 6/27/2010 at Abundant Life Church, FWB, by Pastor Mike Thorne; referencing Psalms 122 Verse 1: "I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord'").
This was a special occasion: The 34th Anniversary of the Founding of the Abundant Life Church.
Pastor Mike Thorne stated that this was the first time he had seen Bishop Thorne (his father) dressed in a T-Shirt! He said this would be one of the shortest messages he had ever given. Pastor Mike noted that the first service in this church occurred on the 1st of July, 1976, and that 68 people were present at that time. The church's vision was "to lead people to Christ and make Disciples". He quoted Psalms 122 Verse 1; "Let us go to the house of the Lord". Remember said Pastor Mike that Jesus saved you from hell. There is something exciting about that. That is the reason we worship Him.
If you clap your hands, little kids will run to you. As a parent that makes you happy. Our Heavenly Father is the same. He is happy when he claps his hands and we come to him. We also need "Faith Tests" or we will not mature. We are a family in this house and this is exactly what heaven will look like. Amen. We need to gather here to be equipped to do the work of the Lord. There are billions of people on this earth, and God has a plan for each of us. Don't think God ever forsakes you. He has his eyes on you. So don't give up. There is nothing you can go through that God can't help you endure and overcome. We serve the most high God, so don't worry. We are here to serve God and bring others to Jesus.
There ae100,000 people in Okaloosa County who do not have God. We need to bring them in. We are here to lead the lost to Jesus Christ. Right here! You don't have to go to Saudi Arabia and address the King. The work is right here to serve the people in this community. For example: (During The Gulf Oil-Spill) - Clear the beach of oil and tar-balls. And always remember: We are here to lead the people to the Lord.
Here the Pastor reminisced about his family Christmases and how they would get under the Christmas tree and cut the scotch tape off the presents and to peek inside. He recalled what his parents had done for the church, and mentioned how the community could pay-back the church at this time.
