Orlando Republican Women's Net 'Hob-Nob' ~ 25 July 2010
2 - 5 PM SUNDAY at The Sonesta Hotel
We drove down to Orlando from the GOP event in Jay, Saturday, 7/24/10. Having spent the afternoon in the sun 'n heat we were a bit trashed and so we stopped overnight in Gainesville. We were timely into the Sonesta Hotel, Orlando on Sunday afternoon.
"BEFORE & AFTER" ~ Les fixed a beautiful table!
Two new travelers have joined our entourage: Tom should need no introduction. Sadly, many kids know more about Kobe Bryant than they do about This "Genius Of Liberty"! (Could that be one reason our country's in trouble?)
Then there's "Ollie" our GOP Elephant. He is here to help us kick the democrat animal-symbol. I call him "Ollie, the Kick-A _ _ Elephant!"
You'all can certainly discern the recent "Woman's Touch" in our Campaign design & decorations since Manager Les has joined the team! (I guarantee you I'd never have had a fluffy little elephant packed-in alongside the firearms!)
This event in Orlando was quite a contrast to yesterday's in the town of Jay in the North-West Panhandle. Up in Jay, we were out in the bright sunshine in a small-town, farming environment with a bunch of pick-up trucks and down-to-earth dudes; today we were inside in a dimly, artificially-lighted "Ballroom" with a bunch of "suits." (I admit I was one of the suits at both events!)
There was a slight "Latin" flavor at the Orlando meeting (and that gets stronger as one goes south -- Florida has indeed developed into two cultural entities). But there was still a fair amount of "Anti-Illegal" sentiment at this event.
In Jay just about everyone attended politely to the speeches and we got excellent recordings; in Orlando, as you can see, while a few people sat and listened (above); many had their backs turned and continued to 'Hob-Nob' (far left photo) during the presentations. It was a pretty noisy gathering; and we were unable to get any acceptable audio. To be fair, I think that outdoor functions, such as the Jay Event also allow background chatter to evaporate into the ether much better than a Ballroom does.
We appeared to be well-received (and Les thought I gave one of my better speeches), but that did not translate reliably into straw-poll votes as most participants still appear to be fixated on "Establishment" candidates. (We did gain ground however).
By the way, in spite of my wearing a suit, I guess I really am a Farm-Boy at heart! As a kid, I can recall, Daddy used to raise cows on the side & Mommie had her very own mini milk-run! We killed our own chickens & rabbits and had pet pigs named "Mrs. Grey" & "Toto", who occasionally wondered through the living room; and whom we mourned upon their final entry into the food-chain.
HERE ... WE got our tickets and used them to vote.
I'm gaining ground!
God Bless America,
